Bloom’s Taxonomy Podcast by Orialys Sarmiento

In truth, the singer’s character really works at the Pizza Pit.
He still lives with his mom and dad in their basement.
Despite this, he claims that he lives in Malibu, he drives a Maserati, he’s a black belt in Karate, he is single and rich, he models for famous designers, he has a six pack, and that he has multiple relationships at any given moment.
The type of person you would find on this guys myspace site is the complete opposite of the actual person.
We all can think of this character and some of us actually know people like this in real life. It's everything a person wishes they were projected onto an online social media site. I think it helps them feel that they are doing something productive and outgoing, it makes them feel like it gives meaning to their life. I would refuse to create a fake/ideal myspace page. If I want someone to read some make believe I prefer write a novel and make some money out of it instead. I don’t see the need for a fake identity; I am projecting a life that I want to lead at the moment. It is not perfect, but I am completely happy with its imperfections and I want the people around me to be happy with my truths and their own truths as well.

Which leads me to talk about the pros and cons of honesty versus make belief.
If I put an honest social media site it shows a lot about my character. It helps to show that I am not ashamed of my life, I am working hard, I enjoy my life, and that it is okay to just live life without telling everyone what is going on 24/7. I hope that truth of my boring life proves that I am working hard to earn my successes so I don’t have time for social drama and maybe other people will gain encouragement to work hard also.
The cons for lying is that you can affect how people see their own lives in a negative way. Online ridicule could make someone ashamed of themselves. Also, Posting lies about how spectacular your life is without making the true effort for these things puts people down. It tells them that their efforts are not enough to achieve success and their struggle is just magnified when they see these things. On top of this, you can lose a lot of friends when they find out that you lying about your life. What if you meet someone online and honestly catch feelings for them but you can never be fully honest? You would most certainly end up losing them. I think that in order to teach students the important message of Internet safety and how to separate their confidence from the Internet, there is a useful activity that can be done. Wikipedia allows for any person to edit the information provided on its website, because of this Wikipedia is not a scholarly website. The student’s assignment will be to edit some information on Wikipedia by changing their full name with any one name or object in a Wikipedia article. Then we will track how long it takes for someone to change the student’s information back into the correct information. This will show students that information is easily changed or wrong on the internet and its sources may not be correct.
On a more obvious note, the writer of this song was hoping to prove a point that the internet is an unreliable source of information. Because of how easy it is to lie online, one should always be skeptical about what they see. I think this is a good message to send, especially because songs are generally tailored to attract the younger crowd and the younger crowds are usually the ones who are most susceptible to such fraud.

2. He still lives with his mom and dad.

3. Online, he makes people believe that he lives in Malibu.

4. MySpace has an accurate description of the singer. For his MySpace, he is about 6 feet and 5 inches tall. He looks good and drives a Maserati. He is a black-belt karate expert. He has so many women, and he loves to drink a glass of wine.

5. I have no intention whatsoever to have a new online personality. Truthfully, it is nothing but hypocrisy!

6. Honesty exposes you to being violated and victimized. Whereas, make believe allows people to get away with murder or get away with anything they want.

7. Parents, educators, administrators, and student must monitor and control access during projects to ensure safety.

8. The singer is just trying to enjoy himself and most likely want to forget his problems. Moreover, he wants to share with everyone that people should not rely on the Internet/online information because they are not really reliable.

Because he is not happy with his physical appearance he describes himself different on MySpace. He says he is 6.5 tall, very handsome, and has six packs abs.
The description you will find if you go to MySpace is not accurate because he portrays somebodyelse’s picture instead of his. He says he is much cooler online.
I think most people can find physical attributes that would change if we had the option to do it. In reality, that option is not possible, so I think we need to accept ourselves with our likes and dislikes because we all are unique and have something to offer.
Pros and Cons of honesty and make believe online. I think that if you are trying to be serious honesty is your best bet. On the other hand, there’s always make believe things that make us laugh. We need a little of everything, but if you are looking for that someone special, your best option is to be honest.
It all has to do with student’s age. For example, if they are n elementary to high school. Schools need to provide security for the students. If they are over 18, then they have to be responsible and cautious about online risks.

        “Bloom’s Taxonomy Podcast”

The singer works in a Pizza pit.
He lives with his mom and dad in the basement of their house.
Online he says he lives in Malibu.
If we go to his MySpace page we would see a 6ft 5 good looking man that drives a Maserati. MySpace account does not have an accurate description of him.
If I could have a new online personality it will just be me. I just like myself and I feel that I am a really helpful person who can get along with everyone; therefore I just want to be myself. Maybe I would just like to be done with my career and be able to help those who need help.
The pros of honesty online are that you can be yourself always. You will see who are your real friends and you will know who likes you for who you are and not for someone you pretend to be. The cons can be putting yourself at risk of bad people who can harm you. Make believe online is just something that I feel has not pros at all. This is just a fantasy and fake profile, so I don’t see any good things about it.
I just feel that students need to be educated correctly about keeping all their information safe from strangers and even close friends because many times your own friends can do a lot of harm to you.
I feel that the singer’s intentions for publishing this song is so people can be conscious of all the things someone can make up in an online account. The singer is just trying to prove that online accounts that are fake can make the dreams of many come true, but at the end you will be sad for trying to be someone you are not.

He would post pictures of himself serving others He would invite all people no matter what their background, race or nationality to friend him. He would sacrifice everything for anyone.

6.I don’t think that there are any pros for playing make believe online, only cons. The person who makes up these kind of lies online are obviously hurting and unfulfilled inside and are not happy with who they are. I don’t think there is anything good about that. If not then they take pleasure in deceiving others. Misleading people on line can lead to all kinds of problems especially if you are developing personal relationships. A person may get involved with someone who will physically cause them harm. There are online predators who prey on people who do this. It could also be emotionally hurtful to the person who has been lied to. I just don’t see anything positive about lying about your life and who you are online. Even Brad Paisley’s upbeat song is kind of sad The poor guy just isn’t happy with who he is.

7.At my school the IT department has 24\7 remote access to my computer. In the class room the teacher can be given the same type of access to remotely check each computer. Certain sites are blocked by the district so students cannot access social media. We have Google Docs in our district. The students email accounts are monitored. I have received notification of some sketchy emails sent from my classroom.

8.I think Brad Paisley is just having fun with a contemporary phenomenon that we see in our cyber society today. I don’t believe that he is trying to make any philosophical or social point or that there is a message. I don’t think listening to this song “raises awareness” about people lying about themselves on line or makes anyone think twice before they do. I think Paisley’s point is that this is a good tune and a fun song to play at a bar.

        1.	The singer really is a short, overweight guy who works at the Pizza Pit.

2.	He really lives with his mom.

3.	The singer says that he lives in Malibu out in Hollywood online.

4.	If I were to go to the singer’s MySpace page, I would find a guy who is tall, fit, and handsome. He would be someone who is rich with a really nice Maserati, who lives near the beach. However, this MySpace page does no accurately describe the singer in his looks or personality. The only realness about the profile on MySpace is that the singer is indeed the person behind the mask.

5.	I don’t think that I would want to have a new personality online because I don’t have enough time to sit around and chat with people for fun, but if I had to change my personality, I would like to change it to someone who puts more pictures about their personal life and interacts with friends. I would like to be able to do this, but I am a private person typically do not like to share a lot about my personal life.

6.	I think that it is always better to be honest, although sometimes it can be a con to be “too” honest. It is a con to make believe online because if you ever want to create a true relationship with someone then you cannot start it off with a whole bunch of lies about yourself. These types of make believe relationships normally never come true or become real-life relationships. That is why it is better to be honest.

7.	A great method to propose to help keep students safe online is to promote honesty online and in the classroom, and warn students about false people and companies online. Students are not the only ones at risk for online predators.

8.	I think that this is great song for everyone to listen too. The lyrics definitely serve a purpose to help enlighten people about the insecurity of the Internet. It lets people know that not everything you see and read online is real. It is warning us to be cautious of what information we give to people we have never physically met before, strangers on the Internet. Although the singer was only changing his whole life, person and personality, and it made him feel better about himself, it is still an example of the point of the song; you can be anyone you want to be on the Internet.

He works at Pizza Pit.
He lives with his mom and dad.
He claims to live in Malibu.
On his Myspace page, he’s a 6’5” model with a black belt in karate and a Maserati-driving, ladies man. In reality he’s an overweight, 5’3” pizza man and about as far from being a ladies man as one could imagine.
If I could have a new online personality, I would create a humorous persona. I would use the persona as a mouthpiece for funny and/or informative posts – perhaps somewhere between the George Takei and I fucking love science Facebook pages.
Creating an online alter ego similar to what is described in the song has the potential to boost self –esteem, but this type of fantasy has many potential risks. It can undermine trust among online communities and this type of deception could be used to do harm. Other types of make believe where people are openly engaging in some sort of fantasy, like avatars for games, can be fun and rewarding.
It’s important to teach children about online safety, like not giving out personal information and not meeting anyone they encounter online without parental permission and a chaperone. Additionally, teachers should prescreen sites and direct children to use sites that have been deemed safe.
This song mocks those who hide behind false online identities, and expresses the notion that what you see might not be what you get. I don’t see much more point than that. I would perhaps read more social commentary into it, but, as he describes the false persona vs. the real person, he seems to merely belittle attributes that he portrays as socially inferior.

1. 1. The singer of this song begins by saying he works at a place called The Pizza Pit.

2. In reality, the subject of the song lives at home with his parents where his room is the basement.
3. The singer would like people to believe that he lives in Malibu.
4. According to this person’s MySpace page, he is a tall, handsome, and wealthy man.
5. I really would not like to and I do not have the time to create or keep tabs on a fake profile. I have a hard time just updating my Facebook page. However, if I were to want to create one, I would probably say that I am a wealthy woman who maintains an envious lifestyle. I’d also probably say that I am the perfect mother and wife and that I have the perfect husband. I believe these are some of the things that most people would like to have and achieve. Sometimes, it is difficult for people to feel content and grateful for the wonderful things that one has already accomplished. I think that it is then that people begin fantasizing about “what should have been.”
6. I really don’t believe that there are any pros in having a make-believe online life. There are, however, many cons in creating a fake life online. One of which is the constant disappointment of the creator every time he or she logs into his or her profile; the constant reminder that what has been posted online is untrue. Creating these type of lies often means that the creator is convinced that he or she will never accomplish any of the things he or she has posted online and that, in reality, their life is pathetic and boring. I believe that people who engage in these type of things generally suffer from extremely low self-esteem.
7. Students should be aware that, although the internet provides great information that may facilitate project completion it is also often a misused tool that may actually affect the credibility of a student’s research. Students should practice safe searching and should question things that sound too good to be true.
8. The singer, through music and humor, expresses a great point. He is making people aware that there are people out there who are not what they seem. Fake profiles have become more and more common in today’s day and age and people have become more and more gullible. I believe that the singer is trying to send the message that if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

This is Assignment 5 – EESL 521 - Bloom’s Taxonomy Podcast – some thoughts based on Brad Paisley’s song, “Online”

Our online friend, in reality, works at the Pizza Pit

2. And, when he is about to launch his online personality, it is from the basement of their home.

3. And while his online personality hangs out in Hollywood, he admits to actually living in the fairly well-to-do beach community of sunshiny Malibu.

4. The totally inaccurate picture he has painted of himself on MySpace is that at 6 foot 5 he is more than a foot taller than he really is, drives a very expensive car – a Maserati, has a black belt in karate, is in good physical shape, is ‘cultured’ enough to pick out a good bottle of wine, and does so well with women that one more is not really going to make his day.

5. At one time, I thought I should have an online presence myself, as it seemed everyone that I knew had one, and it would be a way for us all to stay in touch. But, I found little interest in writing about myself and, too, I wasn’t all that keen about telling the world what books I was reading, what movies I was watching, and what meetings I was going to… actually, I came to find out that I’m a fairly private person. Odd, I thought, as I’m always ready to be involved in social rights movements, and to offer up an opinion. In the end, a couple of hundred friends joined my page, who in turn, in all, have a couple of hundred thousand friends. I’ve not posted anything deliberately for months… but I do talk to them by private message. So, for me to be comfortable, my online personality would be what it is… almost non-existent.

6. As to the pro and con of online make believe; I think it pro if you are honest about who you are, and if not, you’re trying to fool someone, maybe in fun, maybe just because it seems so many others are having so much fun, but to the degree that it’s purposeful deception, it’s not right, and outright wrong if someone comes to depend on what it is that you are saying.

7. As to keeping students safe when they are online… I think I would let them create a false identity – in a word doc, so real that even they would think it’s real. Have them throw in something nefarious… so they can see how possible it is that someone else could do the same. And then have them discuss what harm – and maybe even what punishment – might have come about if they had actually posted that to a social site.

8. As to the point the singer is trying to make… I think he’s just calling out those who do it. I don’t hear anything in the song that says not to do it, or anything in the song that says any harm is coming from it. Nor do I think he was trying to put down anyone who does it. I’m thinking that it was more that he thought it was a winner, and so he released it. It did go to Number 1 on the country charts.

Pros of honesty: people know the real you, you are trustworthy and reliable. Cons: If you are not careful, you may divulge critical information that may end up in wrong hands and you may be victim of a number of crimes, including identity theft, fraud, hacking, kidnapping and assault.

Teach them digital literacy and how to behave online. E.g. Passwords, how to protect information, how to avoid frauds, read info before clicking ok/next.

I think he is trying to tell people to be more cynical about other people online. You can never know who really is “talking” to you.

        1. In the reality of the song, the author works at the Pizza Pit restaurant.
2. The author lives in his parent’s basement.
3. In the story the author has fabricated about his online persona he resides in Malibu California and frequents Los Angeles.
4. The author’s MySpace account would paint him as a physically active and wealthy sports car driver. The MySpace profile would claim the author is 6’5” and a black belt in Karate. The author’s online persona is a wine expert and a self described ladies man.
5. If I were to choose to have a fantasy online persona I imagine he would be a professional artist that travels the globe searching for new artistic inspirations. My online persona would be tall and athletic with varied cultural interests. I enjoy art and culture although the confines of real life require that I pursue the everyday tasks of living rather than jet set across the globe searching for sights. Although the idea of creating a fantasy persona is appealing on some levels the deception required in making others believe that this persona is actually me taints any pleasure I might derive from the charade.
6. As the old adage says “honesty is the best policy”. While there are several benefits to creating a fantasy online persona, the benefits are overshadowed by the negative repercussions of deception. Online profiles can be molded to meet any fantasy one may have. Users can purport to be professional athletes or fantastically wealth. Online profiles can be very entertaining; however deceiving others even just for entertainment presents several long term issues. Creating a fantasy online persona creates pressure to lie bigger to perpetuate and cement the details of the fantasy profile to others. The false profile could create liability issues or result in the creation of relationships based on falsehoods.
7. Keeping students safe while utilizing technology should be a central concern of today’s educators. The Internet is a dynamic and powerful resource whose limitless access to information is both a benefit and a concern. Educators can use structured research environments such as EBSCO or blackboard to control student access to online materials. Instructors should ensure that every student is given information and instruction on safe browsing techniques and a thorough education on the risks of using the Internet for academia.
8. The singer clearly aims to be humorous and to make a point that Internet profiles are not to be thought of as entirely factual. The singer wants to inform the listener to be wary of user created autobiographical information sources.

        1.	The singer works at the Pizza Pit.
2.	He still lives with his mom and dad
3. Online he lives in Malibu
4. The type of guy, you’ll find, if you go to MySpace page is someone who could be a make believe kind of person. He could be either truthful or an imposter. In this case, the guy is setting himself to be a very cool chap. He claims to be 6 foot 5, and damn good looking, drives a Maserati, is a black-belt in karate, lives in Malibu and is very rich, poses for Calvin Klein, and has been in GQ magazine. It turns girls on that he’s mysterious and claims to have a set of six pack abs that would blow your mind. These attributes are so the guy can feel better about himself. After all he is over weight and short. This description of the guy in my space, is not at all an accurate picture of the real person, he is. If he was more honest, he would probably find a really nice girl, who would love him for himself. Being caught up in all these lies are more harmful for him, as eventually he will be caught.
5.	If I could relate this fantasy to my life and have a new online personality, I would be a real estate owner of beautiful homes all over the world. My job would be to travel to where all my homes were and take care of them. This would give me the means to live well, travel and work at something I enjoy. I would also like to help underprivileged children receive a good education and make sure there was enough food for the children and their families. Since I would be well off, I would also like to help build shelters for the homeless. I’ve always liked helping people, so I could relate this to my life.
6. The pros and cons of honesty versus make believe online are: When a person pretends to be somebody he isn’t, than he sets himself up for many lies and disappointments. I would think this wouldn’t be a very satisfactory feeling to know he could con someone versus be honest. Unfortunately, this kind of person doesn’t feel good about himself. If he doesn’t like himself the way he is, than maybe it’s time to do something about it. If the person is after a genuine relationship, than he needs to be honest about himself. “Fantasy’ is a fun exercise, but not realistic. A person can play make believe by going into acting, if he needs to feel like someone else; but on “my space”, online isn’t the place to make believe
7. One of the ways to keep students safe during online projects is to not give personal information like, address, home phone number, bank account numbers or passwords out. If there is anything that looks wrong or too good to be true, should present a red flag. If there is profane language or sexual connotations, this should be a red flag to the student.
8. The singer’s intentions for publishing this song would be to show what kinds of things or people you find online. It is lyrical, funny and has a hidden meaning behind it, as do many country western songs. It shows you can be anything you want online. Being dishonest would not bring forth a happy ending for this fantasy, unless he is trying to fool himself, into believing this is who he really is

Personally I wouldnt create a fake profile. it takes too much time and work to maintain.

If you go online you will meet a 6 foot 5 good looking guys who has 6 pack abs is a black belt drives a Maserati and is rich. It is obviously not an accurate description because he states he is overweight 5 foot 3 he is asthmatic and is really not the ladies man he appears to portray online.
I personally haven’t made a fake identity online, but in high school I remember hearing classmates talk about having done this. I guess I would say I was rich and that I have traveled and lived all around the world. I would probably say I knew 5 languages. I don’t think I’d alter my physical appearance.
I truly feel they’re aren’t many pro’s to being dishonest online for the simple fact that eventually the truth comes out, weather it’s to yourself or to someone else. The consequences are almost always hurtful, and I feel it is very negative for someone’s self esteem. The person devalues their true self, instead of working on what need to be fixed they mask it.
I feel for any type of CAL class or project the students should have user names and definitely passwords. They also should have some type of restrictions set by either the school, teacher, parent or guardian.
I believe that he is making people aware of how easily this can be done, and that it’s done all the time. Students need to be aware that this could be someone feeling bad about who they are, but it can also be someone very dangerous that could harm you. It also might raise awareness about the fact that people can also create fake identities to bully others.

1. The singer really works at a pizza parlor called Pizza Pit.
2. He lives at home with his parents.
3. Online, he claims he lives in Hollywood.
4. Online, he’s a 6’5” cool dude with 6 pack ‘abs’ and a black belt in karate. He’s rich and single with a mysterious persona that turns girls on, along with his Masarati.
This is hardly an accurate description of the man in real life. In reality, he’s 5’3”, overweight and asthmatic, with a bleak perspective of finding a girlfriend or even going on a date.
5. In fact, I would never want to portray another personality other than my real one. But for the fun of it, if I could have a new online personality, I’d be intellectual, but not so reserved. Physically, I’d be a bit stockier, with a confident, clear, manly voice. I wouldn’t wear glasses. These all relate to the personality and physical traits I’d like to change if I could.
6. If you’re going to represent yourself to others on-line (or anywhere else for that matter), I can’t see any ‘pros’ to adding even a little ‘make believe’ to your representation. Of course, you can be selective in what you want to reveal about yourself, depending on the audience and purpose. On the other hand, if you’re up front about creating a ‘make believe’ online persona, so that it’s clear to others what you’re doing, I suppose it could be a fun and creative endeavor that might amuse those who know you well.
7. This may sound like a contradiction to what I just said, but one way students could protect themselves is to have an alias identity that no one knows except themselves, used only for certain activities on the internet where they know they’ll be interacting with people they don’t know and could potentially put them at risk. This is far different from trying to make people believe you’re something that you’re not.
8. I think the singer’s primary purpose is to make a humorous, yet at the same time, serious statement about how the computer-world facilitates people to fantasize about their life instead of being content with who they really are. We all have flaws that we wish we could change; some we can, and some we can’t, and need not. The song is a sad depiction of someone who has not fully accepted himself for who he is, and has opted to invest his energies into creating a fantasy image of himself rather than of taking charge of changing the things he can.

        ON-LINE lyrics by Brad Paisley

1. He works at the Pizza Pit.

2. He lives with his mom and dad.

3. He says he lives in Malibu on-line.

4. If you went to his MySpace page, he paints an inaccurate portrait of himself. While he is really only 5 foot 3, and is overweight, he claims that he is 6 foot 5, has 6 pack abs, has a black belt in Karate, drives a Maserati, and is a hot guy that on a slow day has 3 way dates with women.

5. I can relate to wanting to tell people on-line I live in Malibu, since that is one of my favorite places in the world and I have spent alot of time there, and that I’m younger, richer and drive a Mercedes, however I know that is pointless since obviously it is not being honest. In order to have a great relationship with someone, you must be honest! Pretending to be someone you’re not can be fun if only in your imagination, but in order to achieve a real relationship with someone whether in romance or business, one must be authentic.

6. The pros of make believe on-line is that it may provide some temporary amusement, but the cons are that if taken too far, one can seriously disappoint others. When one has a serious goal, whether for personal reasons or for professional reasons, one must be honest and authentic.

7. With regards to being safe on-line, teachers should advise students to never give out their personal passwords to anyone, not give out their home address, and they should to block or unfriend hostile people on their Facebook account. They should report bullying or stalking behavior to the authorities when appropriate.

8. I think that the singer’s song and lyrics has a message with a universal appeal. Many people wish they were younger, slimmer, richer, more sophisticated and desirable than they might feel they are. Therefore on-line, being behind a computer screen, one can be tempted to project their fantasy selves or alter egos, for self-amusement or in criminal cases, to lure people into their webs for a multitude of reasons. This is well-documented. In this case, it seems harmless. The character in the song may end up actually meeting someone who responded to him in person, and she may also not be who she claimed to be! She may have projected an image of her fantasy self when corresponding with him on-line! When they meet in person, they can sort through all that, and may end up liking each other for who they really are. That would be the fairy-tale ending! And I’m sure that happens sometimes.

      <itunes:summary>ON-LINE lyrics by Brad Paisley

He really works at the Pizza Pit. 2. He lives with his Mom and Dad. 3. Online, he lives in Malibu. 4. He is 6’5”, he looks “damn good”, drives a Maserati, and is a black belt in karate. 5. If I had a new online personality, which I never really would, I would pretend to be someone from a different country and see how much I could pull off. I could use it as an opportunity to learn more about another culture. I would have to learn a lot to be able to trick people into believing that I was from a certain place. Why would I choose this? Well, I don’t believe in wasting time doing things that aren’t productive, so this is the only way creating an online personality would prove productive for me. 6. Being honest online has many pros. First, you don’t have to remember all your lies. That’s exhausting! Second, you’re not deceiving anyone, which means you’re being nice to them in a way. Third, you don’t have to feel so pathetic that you have to lie about who you really are. You can have some pride in who you really are. There is one con to being honest online. You miss out on the satisfaction you feel when you’ve succeeded in your trickery. If someone actually believes your lies, you feel like you’ve won. Maybe there is one more con to being honest. Sometimes you can take advantage of people with your online personality and benefit in some way. So, those are two cons to being honest. 7. To keep students safe during online projects I would first determine what exactly we were doing online. I would then go over some rules that I would want them to follow. I would also try my best to get them excited about the project. Then I would choose an appropriate filtering software or device that would keep the students from either goofing off online, or being exposed to something inappropriate. 8. I believe the singer was trying to open people’s eyes to how many dishonest people there are out in the world today. I think he was trying to warn people to be careful and not to believe everything they see online. That being said, I also think the singer felt a little sorry for the protagonist of his song, whether it was him or someone else from his imagination. One couldn’t help feeling a little sorry for the guy.

1)The singer really works at a pizza pit.

2) He lives with his mom and dad in the basement.

3)Online, it says he lives in Malibu.

4)The type of you will find if you go to his MySpace page is someone who is 6’5 and good looking, who drives a Maserati with a black-belt in karate and loves a good glass of wine. This guy online also lives in Malibu, poses for Calvin Klein, has been in GQ, is single, rich, and has six pack abs. This is not an accurate description of him because in real life is only 5’3, overweight, a scifi fanatic, asthmatic, not a lady’s man, and lives at home.

5)If I could have a new online personality I think I would make myself more outgoing. I would want to make myself this way because in real life I am very reserved. I am reluctant to share things to people unless they are extremely close to me because I am afraid of being judged and rejected.

6) Honesty is good because people can believe what you are saying instead of making people think you are someone you aren’t. People can get really upset if you pretend to be someone and they find out that you aren’t who you say you are. The con of honesty is that sometimes people aren’t happy with who they really are and can be embarrassed by it or not want to talk about it with other people. The pros of make believe online is that you can live an altered life; one that you dream of but have no way of attaining that dream. For example, if your dream is to be a famous singer and live in Hollywood but you have no musical talent, you can pretend that you do to fill the void in your life. The con of make believe is that it is dishonest and you are lying to yourself and to other people.

7) A method to keep students safe during online projects is to tell them not to share any personal information with other people or companies. The teacher could also tell them to stay out of certain websites that they may come across and to tell them to stay out of chatrooms.

8) I think the point that the singer is trying to make is that people aren’t always who they say they are or how they perceive to be. I think that the singer might really be referring to himself when he is singing this song but disguised it as being someone different online. Singers tend to be over glorified in the media. They are often seen as being rich and amazing with nice things. People tend to forget that they are just normal people or that they started off being normal people. I think in this song, the singer might be telling the audience that he is just a normal person underneath all the fame and glory that we see.

5. I want to be rich to support my family, help poor people, lead a life of liberty, drive Bavarian Motor Works(BMW) , and live in big villa. In these case, i don't have to worry about the rest of my life and live happily with my parent and my wife.

6. Pros: Make shy people to be more active or open-minded, they don't have to do face-to-face communication so that they can release anxiety and shyness in certain degree.

Cons: The reality can be faked/twisted in online information, which means we might encounter a liar. We might be victims of deception if someone wants to take advantage of us using our name to purchase or to register unknown websites which require money.

7. Parents can monitor their children's work and teachers have to give students related links and information in case of browsing the wrong websites.

8. Online information is not always reliable, we have to be much careful when dealing with online strangers.

2.He really lives at home with his parents.
3.However on MySpace he claims to live in Malibu.
4.On MySpace he has created an online persona in which he is 6’5, drives a Maserati and is a black belt in Karate. His online alter ego is a wealthy and mysterious man with abs that “blow your mind”, who has posed for both Calvin Kline and GQ Magazine, lives in Malibu and goes to Hollywood. This alter ego is the complete opposite of what he truly is: a 5’3 geek who is working a “dead end” job, lives with his parents and cannot get a real girlfriend, which doesn’t matter to him because his life drastically improves as soon as turns on his Mac.
5.I’ve never been interested in talking to strangers online or recreating myself, so I cannot relate to his need to be a different person. However, I can say that my Facebook profile is filled almost entirely of photo albums of my travels abroad, so in a way you can say, at least in pictures I am portraying my life as an extremely well-travelled person, which in fact is what I aspire to be, and unless you do not know me personally you might think that my entire adult life has consisted of one big holiday after another. If I were to recreate myself I would probably be a person who travels professionally and has an adventure-filled life without any of trivialities of everyday life. I would have a PhD in something impressive and dedicate my life to studying languages and cultures (therefore travelling all the time), be both a writer and professional photographer. I would also read an endless amount of books. These are all things I like and do, but maybe not as actively or as well as I wish.
6.I think the pros outweigh the cons of portraying yourself truthfully online. Being honest online is being honest not only to others but also to yourself. It also keeps us grounded and does exactly what social networking was intended for, a connection to friends and other networks. On the other hand being completely open and honest can lead to a lot of problems, hacking, stalking, and possibly far worse; unfortunately we live in neither a safe nor perfect world. Although creating an alter ego online can be liberating, it can also lead to psychological issues in which reality and fiction no longer have a clear division, and cyber life becomes the reality.
7.Obviously the best way to prevent online “alter egos”, “cyberbullying”, etc. is to educate people on the risks of being online, especially kids. As an educator I would create lesson plans on online safety and tutorials, as well as show videos whether it be to kids or adults. There is so much information on how to protect yourself online, and what better way to do it than use these sites and social networks to teach about online safety.
8.I think that this song, much like some of the comic strips in our module is a satire of our modern world. Paisley is poking fun at the idea of online alter egos, and the wierdos that hide behind them, something quite funny, but also quite real and dangerous. Country music’s sole purpose is to tell stories, and I think Paisley is telling a story and maybe he even wanted to use his music to help get this message across, not everything that is online is real.

1. The singer works at a pizza pit.
2. He lives at his parents’ home in the basement.

3. Online, he lives in Malibu.

4. On MySpace, the singer is 6”5’ tall with six-pack abs that blows anybody’s mind. He is a good-looking guy, and drives a Maserati. He works as a model for Calvin Klein. He is a Black Belt in karate and enjoys drinking fine wine. He is a mysterious guy, who is single and rich and turns girls on. He tells them that he doesn’t want anything serious because he also sees more girls.

The description that the singer has portrayed of himself on MySpace is not accurate because in real life he is the opposite. He is 5”3’ and overweight. He still lives with his parents, is not handsome as he proclaims, and doesn’t have a Maserati but an old Hyundai. He is an asthmatic boy, heavy set and has never had a date.

5. If I could have a new online personality, I would be the next secretary of education. I will have a PhD in education and all children and all schools will have equal access to the best education possible and no students will be denied an education. I would live in Montecito. I would have a huge closet full of designers’ clothes, shoes, and purses. I would have my private chef, trainer, and hairstylist, and with all of this my personality would remain the same.

This will be my online personality because it is something that I can only dream of, and I can build with the click of a button.

6. Being honest online about who we are make us credible and reliable. People can trust any piece of information we post. However, the same honesty can be against us when unscrupulous people can use our information to hurt us. On the other hand, presenting a false image of ourselves makes us look unreliable and not trustworthy.

7. A way of keeping students safe during online projects is to have specific child friendly websites that the students can use to do their research. The teacher would have to do some homework prior to the lesson. He would need to find websites that the students can use and bookmark them on the computers. Similarly, the teacher would need to choose the audience or people who students are going to be communicating with if the project calls for direct contact. The teacher would need to screen the contacts to make sure they are trustworthy.

8. I think the singer is trying to talk to that audience, who are not honest to themselves and pretend to be somebody that they are not. He is trying to convey to young people who believe that only beauty and material things can make them more likeable. Honesty is always the best policy, and you should always love yourself for who you are.

1.	The singer works down at the Pizza Pit.
2.	He lives in the basement of his parent’s house.
3.	He says he lives in Malibu in his online profile.
4.	If you go to his MySpace page, you’ll find him to be a good-looking 6’5” young man who lives near Hollywood. He is physically fit because his abs are a “six pack” and he has a black belt in karate. He’s a single man who his not looking for a serious relationship which makes the girls even more attracted to him because he is mysterious. He drives a Maserati car and has been on the cover of Gentleman’s Quarterly as well as modeled for Calvin Klein. Of course, this description on MySpace is not accurate or even correct. It is a deception of who he really is. He sings that he can’t get a date if he doesn’t put forth these lies. But, how would he get a date anyway? Perhaps a date to chat but never to meet in person because the ruse would be up so it’s not possible to be the “real” him. He is forever constrained to remain in his make-believe world.
5.	I understand the online “show” that most people put on whether intentionally or unintentionally. I have a FB page and find it funny the things people post to create their cyber-life. I know of several persons who are very different in person from what their posts say about them and their personality. My online personality is just as much who I am in person, but I am not so naïve as to believe that it completely represents all of who I am. I suppose if I could have a new personality it wouldn’t be much different from what I already post (which isn’t a lot or very often.) I am trying to devise what I would be and suppose that it would be someone who would be able communicate good thoughts and ideas that would be helpful. One of my dreams is to write novels so I guess I would want to have an online personality of a responsible and interesting writer with a blog that people were interested in interacting with. That may sound basic and boring, but that is really all I can think of.
6.	People should be willing and able to present an honest image of their selves online because to present a different image is dishonest and deceitful. The only pro of this deception is for the protection of oneself. Pretending to be something or someone that you’re not also establishes a “fantasy” style of living that is an unhealthy escape from reality and dealing with what life really is. This fantasy may offer momentary fun and seem harmless, but is that really true when all is said and done. Is the “dreamer” spending time thinking about their alter-ego and the fake life they are leading? It doesn’t seem to be a productive use of time.
7.	As an instructor I would first present a lesson on internet safety to the entire class that establishes the rules for safety first while on the internet, not only for class projects, but for all internet use by the student and family. Students and their parents would need to sign a consent form for acceptable use policies to utilize the internet in our classroom that entailed an agreement to practice internet safety and courteous netiquette. I would also choose a safe site such as www.gaggle.net for instructor and student interconnectivity as well as course website use that is closed to all users except our class or included only collaborative users from other instructors.
8.	The singer is positing the juxtaposition between reality and online facades that have become acceptable practice in today’s society. The lyrics are a satirical metaphor for what really is and what really isn’t. He repeats throughout and ends the song with the phrase, “Yeah, I’m cooler online. Yeah, I’ll see ya online.” This is the final point and main idea that one can now believe that one’s “profile” is a better person (cooler, more acceptable) than the actual person one is. This is a hard and tough reality to recognize and in my opinion could be addressed by the education field via critical analysis skill-building exercises to help students recognize the differences and understand the benefit of their real abilities, traits, and appearance.

This guy works at The Pizza Pit.
His real residence is in Mom and Dad’s home, specifically the basement bedroom.
Online, he lives in Malibu.
On MySpace, he appears to be the Hollywood model type: tall, dark (well, he has a black belt in karate), and handsome. He’s a rich casual ladies’ man. However, in real life, he’s socially awkward, romantically-challenged, and cannot boast the “kind of stats” required for pop culture’s perception of coolness.
I relate, just a little, to this guy’s desire to be more like the seemingly hip Hollywood types. Even though I see value in imagination, I have no desire to create an alternate online personality. So what I would change—if I could—about my life is the amount of time and money I have to live out my dreams. If I had more budget to work with and time to travel, I would be a photojournalist/philanthropist who helps build schools, wells, and AIDS clinics.
I believe the only moral way to live an alternate life online is to interact on web sites where it is explicitly clear that this is a make believe world where no one is real. Some creativity may take place in this imaginary world, but I am concerned that more harm (e.g., emotionally unhealthy attachments) than good comes from online fantasy worlds. I do not agree with the perceptions that cool means possessing certain body traits (by whose standards is “beauty” defined anyway?), driving expensive cars, and having lots of money. Instead, I consider every person as being cool in his or her own way. The World Wide Web would be a much safer place if all users were socially-responsible netizens who support honest interactions and value the unique “coolness” of each individual.
To keep students safe during online projects, I recommend that: a) teachers explain some of the hurtful events that can happen when students are not careful about what they say and do online (e.g., posting suggestive pictures, sharing passwords, engaging in bullying), b) teachers create Safe Use Agreements that students and their parents sign to communicate understanding and willingness to comply, c) schools use filters to block malicious sites and content, and d) teachers have students create multimedia projects that emphasize the positive power of digital citizenship.
I believe Paisley wrote this song to gently mock the practice of misrepresenting oneself online. A distorted perception of coolness leads the guy in this song to think he’s “so much cooler online” with his false identity; meanwhile, the song portrays a guy who’s primarily fooling himself. A tuba-playing, slightly overweight, shy guy is a unique person who can learn to see and appreciate the coolness of his life by recognizing his strengths and learning how to maximize them in real life.

The singer works at a place called the pizza pit.
He really lives in his parent’s basement.
However, online he claims that he lives in Malibu.
His Myspace page claims that he is 6’5” “damn good” looking and rich. He drives a Maserati, has a black belt in karate, enjoys wine, and is a classy ladies-man. Despite all of this information he still claims to be mysterious.
If I were to re-invent myself online, I would likely make the same sort of embellishments that the singer has. I would like to be rich, as most people would, and all around a more interesting version of myself. Something like a James Bond-like character comes to mind.
Adopting an alter-ego online can be beneficial in helping a person to escape the dullness of everyday life. It can be therapeutic to allow yourself to express how you wish things were and allow creativity to run its course. However, in large doses, I think inhabiting an online character can be detrimental to a person’s mental state. When reality becomes a secondary focus in a person’s life it can lead to chronic psychological and physiological illnesses. In addition, keeping the facts straight when you make things up can be incredibly difficult and stressful as many classic TV sitcoms have shown.
I believe keeping students safe online works in the same way as keeping students safe in real life. Education is the key. Just as we teach children to never take a ride with strangers, we should alert students to the common pitfalls and schemes websites and ill-intentioned folks use in order to exploit our students.
I think the singer made this song to bring into the spotlight an emerging problem in society: internet addiction. While it is not too clear whether the singer thinks this is a good or a bad thing, it is clear that anonymity online can lead to morally unacceptable behavior, in this case lying.

The singer in real life works at the pizza pit, lives in the basement of his mom and dad’s house, drives a Hyundai, and is short, overweight, and asthmatic. He also has little experience with women, having no girlfriend and never having “made it to second base”. Online however he resides in Malibu drives a Maserati, models for Calvin Klein, is a black belt in karate, and is six foot five with a six pack. He is mysterious, flirtatious, and very popular with woman.
If I could be anyone online I would most likely be me just with the dial turned up to all the way. What I mean by that is I would still think the same and say the same things. But I would not be as hesitant about making comments; I would basically lose my internal filter that keeps me from saying to much or saying something rude. Basically I would be a more confident version of myself.
When it comes to a discussion about honesty versus make believe online there are several pros and cons for each side. When it comes to being honest it can make you feel better about yourself in the long run and also keep things simple, you don’t have to worry about trying to remember this second life you invent and try to keep all your stories straight. Make believe online can possibly provide an outlet for people who normally are to reserved or shy to speak out, it can also allow people to make the life they all ways wanted for themselves. The problem is that without reservations people might say hurtful or harmful things, and in creating a false life they might feel worse about themselves in reality as they compare their ideal online life to the life that they actually live.
I believe that there are a couple of ways to keep students safe while having them use the internet in lessons and in their everyday life. The first is simply that as the instructor be knowledgeable about the websites you are sending students to, and as well know about the popular sites that students will use. The second is to teach students that what they say or write online will affect others and themselves in reality. Words are indeed hurtful and with the ability to now spread a message to almost every corner of the world nearly instantaneously more people can be affected by inflammatory statements. Students should also be made aware that it is not an unusual practice for companies to examine the social media pages that applicants have set up as part of a background application, so if a posting or picture is put up that presents someone as irresponsible or unreliable they might not be hired.
I found that the song sought to humorously demonstrate that what is presented online is not necessarily true and that people do not present themselves online as they actually are in real life. There is a statement that goes around that if it is on the internet then it must be true. Now it is understood that this is not the case and most people say this statement sarcastically, but there are some people who still maintain that the any information provided online is reliable. The song demonstrates that we have to be careful about the information we find on the internet as a person can easily create a false image, what they say about themselves might not be the truth.

In real life the singer really works at the Pizza Pit and he lives with his mom and dad in his basement bedroom. Online he lives in Malibu. Online he's 6'5" tall and looks damn good, drives a Masarati so he's rich, has a black belt in karate, loves a good glass of wine so he's classy, he's a ladies-man, and he's mysterious.
If I could have a new or fake online personality I would have a PhD (without the work). I would be a size 6 (without the work). I would live in a big house and have no bills. Because I could create it and not do the work to get it. Have it all, all the big dreams.
The pro and con of being honest versus make believe online would be not having to keep up with the lies. to be honest online also means being honest with myself and thats what really matters. The con of being honest is that some people may find it more fun to be able to be someone else online. A pro would be living in a fantasy world, have all the dreams and "stuff" without having to do the work to get it. A con- keeping up the lies are hard and time consuming. Being "found out" would be devastating.
The most important thing I believe to keep students safe online is to talk about safety and the importance of it. I believe a method would be to have the students do research and write a page on internet safety to make sure they understand why it's so important to be safe online.
I don't know if the artist has kids but that was my first thought, that he was publishing this for the sake of safety for his kids but also for the safety of children online or even unaware adults. To make a fun, catchy songs is a way for him to get his point across that you can't trust what strangers may say about themselves.

Pizza Pits.
mom’s Basement.
Malibu.
Rich, handsome, and very caring and sharing. I think MySpace will not have all the description accurate.
If I have to create online personality I would choose a psychiatric counselor where I can listen to people and help them solve their problems.
Honesty is good but not on the internet. Of course, in some certain point you should be honest. For example, if you are with people who share their problems or concerns. The cons for that are people may use your personal information in a bad way not all the people using internet are in safe when they share with whomever their information.
During online project, the teacher’s job is to make sure that students understand that it is very important not to share their information or their passwords with any one. Also, always remember them to sign out when using their personal accounts.
I think the singer’s aim is to warn people from the internet world. I think he is trying to say that everyone can make a lie on the internet the example is that he convinces them that he lives in Malibu while in reality he lives in his mom’s basement.

Bloom's Taxonomy Podcast by Professor Marcy

Podcast Module 4 – Applying Bloom’s Taxonomy to Listening and Speaking Activities Online
This podcast is going to help get you familiar with Bloom’s Taxonomy.
I think that many teachers do not know how to use some of the wonderful audios and videos that are available online. So, they sit the student in front of the computer, send them to a website like elllo.org, and tell them to practice what they want. That is fun for the student for a little while, but eventually, he is going to want to more. More interaction, more purpose to the lesson.
One way for teachers to use a listening file online as a starting point to a longer activity is to apply the six steps of Bloom’s Taxonomy to a particular video or audio. To complete this activity, this podcast, you may want to listen to the lecture in Module 4 on Bloom’s Taxonomy.

For this podcast, I want you to work through the six steps of Bloom’s using the song “Online” by Brad Paisley and the worksheet “Applying Bloom’s Taxonomy.” Both the song file and the worksheet can be downloaded under Module 4.
Click here to listen to the song: http://www.myspace.com/music/player?sid=28184355&ac=now
Click here to download the worksheet to use while listening to the song: http://tinyurl.com/7oenaa6 **Note: You can download the song and listening worksheet from Blackboard also.

So, I would like you to listen to the audio file first. Then type out your answers to questions 1 – 8. Now you are not going to type your answers in a table format on the worksheet, okay? You are going to type them in the body of Microsoft Word, but not in a table. I want you to use complete sentences for your answers. I want you to number your answers, but do not type them in a table because a table will not copy and paste correctly. Okay, so you need to just type them in a text file, but don’t put them in a table. In fact, your paragraphs aren’t going to show up online either. Once you copy and paste your script, your paragraphs are going to go away. That is why numbering your answers is important. These answers will become the script that you will record and then post to www.podomatic.com. Your MP3 audio file should be 2 – 3 minutes long, so you want to make sure that you write enough information about the questions so that you’re talking for 2 – 3 minutes. If you want to ask a question, you can also. If you want to add that, and ask a question yourself, that’s fine.
Now, please realize that there are two websites. To listen to this podcast and your classmates’, you go or you have gone to http://eesl521.podomatic.com.
However, you cannot log in at that site. There’s no log in button at eesl521.podomatic.com. Therefore, when you are ready to upload your recording, you’ve already done your recording and you are ready to upload your recording, you need to go to http://www.podomatic.com. And then you can log in following the “Podcasting Instructions.”
Also, you need to upload an MP3 file. Can’t upload a different kind of file. That means that the file name should end in “.mp3” Some computers hide these file extensions. Dot mp3 or Dot doc. Some computers hide those. If you can’t see any extensions, please follow the instructions under Module 4 on “How to See File Extensions.”
Once you have completed your podcast, you will be ready to do Assignment 7 – Creating a Student Worksheet using Bloom's Taxonomy, under Module 4.
